We want to say thank you to everyone who came to our concerts at OVFF and WindyCon! We had a great time and hope you did as well. We also had a blast with all the folk who were in the Filk circles at both cons, playing and listening to music! We can’t wait to do it again!
A special thank you to the Con Coms and Programming folks at OVFF and at WindyCon for having us and for putting on such great conventions!
If you are going to be at the Ohio Valley Filk Festival (which I highly recommend you check out!), We will be playing a 30 minute concert on Sunday 10/22 at 2:20 PM. There will be great concerts all weekend from some amazing performers! We will be around the whole weekend hanging out, playing a bunch of new tunes, including several slated for the new album, and generally geeking out on awesome music! Hope to see you there!
Lots of good things have been happening for the Sidekicks lately.
The great Geek Music Podcast – Radio Free Hipster – featured Han Solo For President in their latest episode. This Podcast is produced by GeekDad, which is a fantastic website for all things Geeky. Definitely check it out!
We want to give a big THANKS! to Convergence and specifically the staff and crew at Harmonic Convergence! We had such a great time playing music for the con and we look forward to doing it again next year!
There are plenty of Co-op games that play well as a two player experience, but Co-op games that are specifically built to be one or two player only are not currently very common. So when a two player “rogue-like” co-op game showed up on Kickstarter, we were intrigued. (Note: You can play this game with up to four players, if you have two copies of the game. More on that later.)
To make it even more compelling, it billed itself as a dice based dungeon crawl that can be played in about 30 minutes. It uses one deck of custom cards, a whole bunch of colored dice (DICE!!!), and a few wooden bits to track things… and it packs a lot of fun into that small set of parts!
To start, each player takes a character card from one of the five classes...
The Faithful Sidekicks were honored to be interviewed for the great video podcast Go Indie Now. This series of videos features independent authors and artists. We got to talk about FILK, FAWM, and independent music.
It is safe to say, we are big Harry Potter fans! But there have been quite a few Harry Potter themed games that have been nothing more than a slight re-theme of other games (Harry Potter Uno anyone?) or trivia games. These are fine for what they are.
Then Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle came along. When we were initially looking at the game, it went a bit like this:
Harry Potter game… not a re-theme – We’re interested.
Fully Co-op – Ok, Sign us up!
Deck Builder – Shut up and take my money!
With a sort of Legacy like progression – We can’t shove money at you any faster!
In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle, each player takes the role of either Harry, Hermoine, Ron, or Neville (Team Neville FTW).
The Faithful Sidekicks once again participated in February Album Writing Month and had a blast. We wrote 12 new geeky songs and almost all of them will be going into our regular song lineup. Be on the look out for new gigs where we will be debuting these new tunes!
We are announcing here that we have started work on a new album, very tentatively titled Achievement Unlocked. Our current hope is that the full CD will be complete and available by the end of the year. We’ll update you here on our site or our Facebook page as more details emerge!
